April always means new students for us in Durham with the start of another term.  Our current cohort of only 10 students arrived in early April and we spent some time at Wadham College, Oxford University.

Our induction programme included a bus tour of Oxford and a formal dinner in the historical Wadham dining hall. We also had a lecture from Ann Muston which was engaging. Oxford is a stunning city and the students loved shopping and sightseeing there.

We then departed for Durham and everyone moved into the accommodation alongside Durham University students. After another few days of induction based in Durham, everyone went to Newcastle for a daytrip. Our students always love Newcastle and are frequent visitors for shopping and food.

Later in April we welcomed Okinaga Junior Research fellow Dr Alice Baldock to Durham for a special lecture. Our students were fortunate to listen and engage with Alice’s subject regarding Butoh.

Within the first few weeks, students had also travelled to York and Whitby. York is so charming and students enjoyed walking down streets reminiscent of Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley. They also spent some quality shopping and trying traditional food.

It was the famous Goth Festival during the trip to Whitby – and the students decided to dress up especially to join in. They were amazed at everyone’s costumes and took many photos. They also enjoyed fish and chips.

We had a great start to this term and a lot of super events and travel to come!
