June saw our students visit some key locations in the UK. Firstly we visited the Lake District which is an outstanding area of natural beauty.

The  daytrip went to Ullswater, Ambleside and Bowness on Windermere. Although the weather was super windy, the students still loved the scenery and many went on a boat trip around the lake. Some students went to the World of Beatrix Potter museum and bought many Peter Rabbit souvenirs.

The next daytrip went to Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. Everyone enjoyed a taste of Scottish culture and they enjoyed walking around this historical place and visiting some local attractions.

As the end of Durham University term closed in, numerous events took place on campus. We were involved with the Durham Inter-Society Football League. Our students played as part of the Anglo Japanese Society football team.

They played against other Durham University Societies and made it to the final. We all went to support the final match at Collingwood College pitch against the Catholic Society. Both teams were strong and played exceptionally well. Despite our best efforts, we lost the match (5 – 3). Our final match goals were scored by Riki and Kaisei. During the tournament, Riki was joint top scoring player with 10 goals scored. Kaisei scored 6 and Rui scored 5. A tremendous achievement and we are so proud of the effort everyone put in.

Summer term always means college events and Mary’s Summer Ball and Mary’s Day were the key events in June.

Summer Ball was a formal meal followed by entertainment. The entire party lasted 12 hours and the students were so excited to participate.

Entertainment included fairground rides, photobooth, DJ’s, live music and more. Those who made it through the night went to Observatory Hill to watch sunrise (a ball tradition) and then survivors breakfast and photo.

Mary’s Day was a fantastic ‘festival’ style event that celebrates the college community. The students listened to music from live student bands and performers to tribute artists.

They also took part in games and inflatable challenges. Mary’s is the best!
