Our 31 Autumn course students arrived on 30th August and enjoyed a very warm Induction in Cambridge at St Edmund’s College with our EFL co-ordinator Helen, EFL teachers and Teikyo staff. As well as academic exams and engaging lectures with Ann Muston; they were able to enjoy sightseeing in Cambridge including punting on the river Cam, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all!
The students also had an opportunity to visit Trinity College Cambridge where an apple tree was planted in 1954 to honour the contributions Sir Isaac Newton made to science in discovering gravity. He studied at Trinity College, Cambridge graduating in 1665 and later becoming Chair of Mathematics at Trinity College, Visiting the historic apple tree was a wonderful and unique opportunity for the Teikyo students.
After a thoroughly enjoyable induction programme the student travelled to Durham on Monday the 2nd of September to complete the Durham induction programme. After completing all of the necessary administration, the students enjoyed a trip to Newcastle visiting the major tourist spots and shopping areas with the EFL teachers Michael and Jacob and the ISC Junko.
The academic timetable commenced on 9th September and so far, the students are enjoying their studies as well as getting to know Durham City before the Durham students arrive! They have enjoyed several sports with Jacob including football, badminton running and circuit training as well as E-sports and film nights with Michael.
All students also have had the opportunity to visit York-a very beautiful historic city which is only an hour by train from Durham with mediaeval streets, the magnificent minster, and wonderful tearooms to enjoy tea and cake!
