Last week Teikyo University of Japan in Durham hosted a wonderful musical event. The Music evening was enjoyed by the students, staff and invited guests. This was our second “Music for a Summer Evening” initiated by Professor Imaseki and hopefully this annual collaboration between TUID, Durham staff , students and friends of TUID will continue to play an important role in our summer calendar.
The evening commenced with the Principal’s welcome followed by drinks and buffet where guests, staff and students enjoyed the opportunity to mingle and enjoy English conversation before sitting down to enjoy the concert.
The evening showcased a wide repertoire performed by talented musicians playing several different instruments including acoustic guitar, piano, cello, tenor horn, trombone and cornets. The programme included a varied mix of music with something for all tastes varying from Debussy and Handel through to traditional Japanese and English folk songs to self-compositions and Disney’s Frozen!
Traditional Japanese dancing was also showcased and the event was brought to a close with the audience and musicians joining in with a heart-warming rendition of Percy Grainger’s Londonderry Air.
