December is a very busy month at Teikyo University of Japan in Durham. Not only do the students sit final exams and complete the necessary revision but for some their time in Durham draws to a rapid close. The students meet language partners and friends to say goodbye, attend College balls and end of term Formal dinners as well as sightseeing and souvenir shopping.
Recently Jacob took two students to participate the Durham Park run- a 5kilometre run around the woods and along the river in Durham which they thoroughly enjoyed.
Other sporting events included 10 pin bowling and the final gym challenge-to hold weights for the longest time which was won by Shota after a hard-fought contest!
Helen and Debra took a small group of students to Gibside, a local National Trust property which was a lovely opportunity to experience an historic building and grounds alongside helping staff prepare for forthcoming Christmas events for local families and children.
Teikyo time on Durham University’s Purple radio also drew to a close. The students involved thoroughly enjoyed their experience as DJ’s. Friends and family in the UK and Japan could listen in too, which made it a very exciting opportunity!
The term concluded with a Farewell Dinner for the students in a local restaurant to celebrate their Academic Achievement and of course the Teikyo Christmas party with traditional party games such as pass the parcel (with forfeits) and singing Christmas Carols and songs waiting for a special arrival from Santa Claus himself, with a chocolate gift for all of the students!
Sadly the end of term sees 17 students return to Japan whilst 14 are off to language schools around the country before returning to Durham in mid-January.
