帝京大学ダラムキャンパスにとって１０月はとても忙しい月です。そう、「帝京祭」というメインイベントがあるからです。今年も帝京生による日本文化の紹介（折り紙、習字、日本語レッスン、焼きそば、抹茶のティステイングなど）を多くの方に楽しんでいただきました。ダラム市長にもご来場いただき、多くの寄付金も集まりました。皆様のご協力に心よりお礼申し上げます。

October is a busy month in the TUID calendar with the Teikyo Festival being the main event!  The Teikyo Festival was held on 19^th October this year which turned out to be a dry and calm day weatherwise. The festival enables the Teikyo students to display a small snapshot of Japanese culture to the local Durham community.

 

 The festival was very well attended this year by both Durham and Newcastle University students as well as local residents, families and even a nearby scout group.

 We were also lucky enough to enjoy a visit from The Right Worshipful, The Mayor of Durham, Councillor Liz Brown.

 The students demonstrated calligraphy and origami as well as teaching simple Japanese language and showing people how to wear Yukatas, which is always very popular. They demonstrated a green tea making ceremony and cooked Yakisoba for everyone to enjoy. Games included the chopstick challenge and a football game.

Local groups provided Kobudo and Aikido demonstrations led by Colin Young and Malcolm Blackwood respectively. Durham University Oriental Museum came to LHCC to display artefacts and also allowed all festival visitors free access to the Oriental Museum throughout the day. The festival concluded with wonderful musical performances on piano and guitar from Mii and Toranosuke.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed preparing and taking part in the festival: - interacting with both native English speakers and international students knowing that all proceeds from the event would be donated to local charities.

 Aside from the festival the students continue to work hard in their studies, participate in sporting clubs in Durham and enjoy visiting local towns and cities independently.
